The band's formation was a heartfelt response to his passing, with the name "Brother Fat" paying homage to a cherished nickname from his youth. What began as a memorial show has evolved into a dynamic and passionate endeavor dedicated to honoring The Count's legacy.
The Band Members:
JW Powell: On keys, he brings a wealth of experience from his time with Asheville's Vertigo Jazz Project, Sanctum Sulley, and The Mantras.
Jerry Sorn: Handling guitar and vocals, Jerry's background includes touring with Michael Clark's Byrds, Tall Dogs, and Butch's Brew alongside the legendary Butch Trucks.
Joel Forlines: Another guitar and vocals maestro, Joel's talents extend to his involvement with the Natty Lovejoys, Cosmic Shift, and the Grateful Dead tribute band "Chants in the Void."
Darren Goot: As the band's drummer, he keeps the rhythm tight, bringing his expertise from his time with Atlanta rockers The Flying Oatsmen and Blair Out Loud.
Derek Sandlin: The bass grooves are in good hands with Derek, who has shared the stage with national acts like the Steep Canyon Rangers and the Victor Wooton Band. He currently plays with jazz standout Jason DeCristofaro and local legend, drummer Jeff Sipe.
Mark Chester: Mark brings his vocals and percussion skills to the stage, with a musical history that includes Atlanta's Col. Bruce Hampton & The Madrid Express, The Flying Oatsmen, and Asheville's recording artists QuickChester.
